BEAVERTON, Ore. – K.J. Hill twice planned visits to Notre Dame this spring and twice, the 2015 Arkansas wide receiver had to cancel, but not for lack of interest.
“It just didn’t work out because I moved and then school and practices and stuff,” Hill told Irish Sports Daily from The Opening here at Nike World Headquarters this week.
“It’s been hard.”
The 6-foot, 185-pounder from North Little Rock hasn’t scratched the Irish off his list by any means and could still make it to South Bend eventually.
“Notre Dame is high on my list,” Hill said. “I’m thinking about an official there. I’ve got three definite officials and they’re going to be Florida, Alabama and Ohio State right now. Notre Dame might jump in there.”
Notre Dame assistant coach Bob Elliott and head coach Brian Kelly have been active in their recruitment of Hill.
“I talk to the coaches, Coach Kelly DMs me on Twitter and talks to me a lot,” Hill said. “I like Notre Dame. I saw Corey Holmes went up there. I was close to him and if he went up there, that means it’s something I would want to see.”
Kelly and Elliott have talked about the importance of getting Hill on campus.
“Coach Kelly just wants me to get up there to get the environment,” Hill said. “Coach Elliott, he’s my main recruiter. He DMs me and I talk to him like once a week, he just wants me to get a feel for it.”
In addition to the three official visits Hill already has scheduled, he has an unofficial coming up to Alabama a few days after The Opening.
“A lot of us are going to be out there on the 13th for camp,” Hill said. “I’m going to stay with one of my former players, Altee Tenpenny. That’s it right now. I haven’t decided any others.”
Hill is looking for the school that fits him best.
“When I get up there, I just want to see if that’s me. I want to see if I can fit in up there, if the coaches are down to earth and if I can play for them.”
