Brian Kelly released a statement on Michael Floyd on Monday evening through Notre Dame Director of Football Communications Brian Hardin that could be the first suspended for the star receiver to rejoin the Irish football team.
Hardin announced via his Twitter that “Floyd may participate in voluntary summer workouts, if he chooses, but he has not been reinstated to the Notre Dame football team.”
Hardin also released Kelly’s statement:
"Michael has made steady progress towards modifying his behavior and he may participate in the voluntary workouts being conducted by his teammates as well as the summer strength and conditioning program, if he so chooses. However, Michael still has steps to take before he can be considered for reinstatement to our football team. If he meets the conditions I have outlined to him and he demonstrates improved decision-making skills, Michael will have the opportunity to rejoin the team for practices and games this fall. If he doesn't meet every criteria given to him, Michael will not play for Notre Dame in 2011."
Floyd has been suspended indefinitely since his arrest for driving under the influence just days before the start of spring practice. Kelly has recently said that Floyd will either take care of all of the things he needs to before the season and will be allowed to play right from the start of the season. If he hasn’t taken the steps Kelly feels he needs to, he will not be a member of the team in 2011.
