After scratching and clawing through a gritty contest against No. 5 Duke in the NCAA National Championship, all the Blue Devils needed was five seconds of overtime to earn the program its first national title in its history.

Junior midfielder David Earl provided the offense, while senior goalie Scott Rodgers provided the defense en route to Notre Dame’s 8-5 upset over six-seeded Princeton in the first round of the NCAA Championship Sunday afternoon at the Class of 1952 Stadium in Princeton, N.J.
