QuentonNelson1Quenton Nelson arrived in South Bend last week with more than two dozen scholarship offers and the 2014 New Jersey offensive lineman ended up leaving with one more from Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly.

“Coach Kelly extended an offer before he left,” Red Bank Catholic High School head coach Jim Portela said. “He was very excited about it, no doubt.”

The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder used last week’s school vacation to make stops at Ohio State, Penn State and Northwestern in addition to Notre Dame. He had a great time in South Bend, according to his coach.

“He really, really enjoyed it,” Portela said. “He had a great trip. He was very impressed. It’s one of the schools he’s going consider very, very seriously.

AlexAnzaloneND1It’s been a wild couple of weeks for Alex Anzalone since the Pennsylvania linebacker announced his decommitment from Ohio State.

“It’s been pretty crazy, but it’s settled down a little bit,” said Anzalone.

“I don’t read any of the stuff online; I don’t pay attention to it. College football fans are crazy to say the least, but it’s what recruiting has come to. I understand it all, but it doesn’t affect me.”

The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder from Wyomissing Area High School has managed to find some peace through all of the outside distractions.

ND Looking At Philly WR

WillFullerDBNotre Dame is looking for at least one more receiver to go with verbal commitments James Onwualu and Corey Robinson in the Class of 2013 and the Irish are using the spring evaluation period to identify potential prospects.

On Tuesday, Notre Dame offensive coordinator Chuck Martin and area recruiter Harry Hiestand were in Philadelphia to get a look at Roman Catholic High School receiver Will Fuller.

“We were working out and they happened to come by and watch him,” Roman Catholic head coach Joe McCourt said. “Everything we hear from them is positive and we’ve developed a pretty good relationship. They haven’t pulled the trigger on the offer just yet, but the offensive coordinator, Coach Martin, and the offensive line coach, Coach Hiestand, they really, really like what they see. It’s just a matter of days, I think.”

ND Tells 2013 QB Offer Is Coming

NewRecruitingLogoIt was Homecoming Night and his team had just blown an 18-point second half lead.

Butler High School (Matthews, N.C.) fans may have thought the game was over when an interception from junior quarterback Riley Ferguson was returned 49 yards for a touchdown, giving Ardrey Kell High School the lead with two minutes remaining.

But not Ferguson.

Ferguson quickly engineered a two-minute drill that was capped when he faked a spike in the final seconds, instead lofting a 12-yard touchdown pass to his older brother, Zach, giving the Bulldogs a 43-40 victory. Ferguson finished with 325 passing yards and four touchdowns.
