After decommitting from Michigan last month, Anthony Standifer plans on taking his time before he makes another decision on a college.

In fact, the 6-foot-1, 178-pound senior cornerback from Crete, Ill., (Crete-Monee High School) doesn’t intend to have a decision made by Feb. 1st.

“I’m going to wait until after signing day because I want to take all five of my officials,” said Standifer.

“I’m not in a rush. Last time I rushed myself and it didn’t turn out right. I’m just going to take my time.”

The three-star cornerback hasn’t taken any officials yet, but that will change when he takes his first to Notre Dame on Jan. 20th. The Irish touched base with Standifer’s coach last month and relayed a message that they’d be in touch with Standifer when the dead period expired.

Notre Dame recruiting coordinator Chuck Martin caught up with Standifer last week to set up the visit.

“I talked to Coach Martin,” Standifer said. “He just wanted to know if I could come for the 20th. He asked me what happened with Michigan. He said I couldn’t do it this weekend because there are no students on campus, so we’re doing it the 20th.

“It was a brief conversation. He wanted my transcripts. We will be talking again. I’m going to call him back (Tuesday) or he’ll call me.”

Standifer had planned to make a trip to South Bend during the summer, but he committed to Michigan the day before his scheduled visit to Notre Dame, which he subsequently cancelled. Last month, he told Irish Sports Daily he parted ways with Michigan because he “wanted to make a better decision.”

He’s hoping the upcoming visit to Notre Dame will help him make a better decision.

“I really want to see the academic center,” he said. “I basically want to see everything.”

The week after he visits Notre Dame, he’ll head to Boise State for an official, but doesn’t have anything set up beyond those two. “That’s it as of now,” he said.

The Semper Fi All-American does have at least a couple of schools he’d like to visit.

“Nebraska, Illinois and I don’t know yet,” he said. “I’m trying to get in touch with Arizona State. I went down there for the All-American game and I really liked it out there. They have a beautiful campus.”

Standifer, who is no longer considering the Wolverines, will be prepared before he offers another verbal commitment.

“I’m going to sit down with my family and see what they think,” he said. “I’ll basically do all of my research and see where I can get a chance, how the DB coach is and just the overall view of each school.”
