Through the fall and into the winter, Archbishop Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller quarterback, and Notre Dame verbal commit Andrew Hendrix, will be writing a guest blog for Irish Sports Daily, chronicling his senior season, while also talking about anything else that comes his way.
Hello Notre Dame Fans, and welcome to my blog!
The first quarter ended at Moeller High School Friday, and with a swift kick in the pants from a chemistry and math exam on game day, I was reminded that I am a student first, athlete second! I managed to pull off pretty good grades, regardless of my wandering mind, daydreaming of throwing touchdowns and running over linebackers in the night’s GCL match up vs. La Salle.
The Crusaders outlasted a tough Lancers squad 35-14 in a very windy and rainy game. They stacked the box to stop our brutal running attack, forcing us to throw the ball. Finally, I got a chance to prove what I could do through the air, and even in harsh conditions our passing game was effective. A couple miscues here and there, but overall we did great as a team, passing, catching, and protecting. On the night I was 19-of-31 for 190 yards and a touchdown, while also running for two scores as well. It was a great team win and our record improves to 8-0 and 2-0 in the GCL.
Notre Dame was so close, a mere five yards away from going into overtime in a game that looked to be slipping away. That’s what the Irish do. They fight until the very end. Coach Weis said it all in his interview. He said if you would have told him they were first-and-goal at the end to tie the game, he would have taken it. So would anyone. They played their hearts out with a chance to win it at the end and they came so close. I know Jimmy and Kyle will want this one back for sure but it will only make them better in the long run. This game will go a long way for the Irish, and I look for them to bounce back and throttle Boston College!
Next week we take on Lakewood St. Edwards, always a tough team to play up at Cleveland. Little road trip and some good football to be played… should be a grand time!
See you next week, and Go Irish!
