Through the fall and into the winter, Archbishop Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller quarterback, and Notre Dame verbal commit Andrew Hendrix, will be writing a guest blog for Irish Sports Daily, chronicling his senior season, while also talking about anything else that comes his way.
Hello Notre Dame fans! Andrew Hendrix here, thanks for coming to my blog!
First off, I’d like to thank Irish Sports Daily for the opportunity to write this blog. It is really an honor to be affiliated with such a program like Notre Dame, and to be able to contribute something. Talking with Steve Wiltfong, this will be a weekly blog either until the end of football season, or until National Signing Day (if I can find things interesting enough to talk about, to keep readers coming back out of season!).
With that out of the way, hopefully you enjoy my blog for the next couple months, as I let you know more about myself and our season.
Last week was the start of our two-a-days, with meetings starting at 7:30 a.m., practices running from 9-to-11:30, and 2-to-3:30, and lifting and films in between the practices. Everything went great with high-team intensity and a focus like I’ve never seen.
If you’re not familiar with Archbishop Cincinnati Moeller High School, it’s a school with great tradition, seven state and five national championships, that plays in the Greater Catholic League South, widely considered one of the best football leagues in the United States.
It’s an up year for Ohio football, with our own region being a buzz saw to get out of to advance to state. We alone have three teams ranked in ESPN’s top-50, in Colerain, Elder and ourselves. This is why focus is necessary for our team to reach its goals. In a region where four or five teams have a legitimate shot at winning a state title, where the community expects you to be great, and where you have a team projected to do so well, the pressure can get the best of you (not to mention when you’re committed to Notre Dame, it is safe to say people expect you to do very, very well).
We are a focused team, and as a captain, it is my job to keep it that way. I think we had a great first week of practice, and if it’s any indication of things to come, I think we are going to have a great season this year. Our schedule is brutal, and it’s always a battle to win the GCL South, but with the team we have, the coaching and the support, I know we can do it.
By next week’s blog, we will have scrimmaged Louisville Trinity, another ESPN top-50 school, so we will really be able to see where we are at.
Thanks for reading, and if you have any requests on things you’d like to hear about, just let Steve Wiltfong know so he can relay these things to me. I’m very open to any ideas or interests! Thanks again and Go Irish!
Andrew Hendrix
