Through the fall and into the winter, Archbishop Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller quarterback, and Notre Dame verbal commit Andrew Hendrix, will be writing a guest blog for Irish Sports Daily, chronicling his senior season, while also talking about anything else that comes his way.

Hello Notre Dame fans, and welcome to the second edition of my blog! Hopefully you enjoyed the first, and if this is your first time reading, thank you for viewing.

This past week was a very intense week of practice for our team. We began the week with two-a-days again, then on Friday we had our first scrimmage of the year versus Louisville Trinity.

Building up to the scrimmage, we watched lots of film on them, and put together a very good offensive scheme versus the defense they put on the field. For the football minds out there, the Shamrocks ran a 4-2, and usually play Cover 3, with the occasional Cover 2 look. We took advantage, hitting the flats and picking them apart on verticals and box routes, etc. Our run game was fantastic and our offensive line play was dominant. We were ahead 24-6 at halftime, on a team that’s ranked 43rd in the nation according to the preseason national high school rankings. I was very happy with the way the team played, and individually I thought I did well also. Obviously mistakes happened, a couple of fumbles, and an interception that was preventable, but that is what scrimmages are for. We learned from our mistakes as a team, and now we’re a better team from that.

Now a new week, with another scrimmage. I’ve been looking forward to this Friday since the end of last season. Colerain, a top-10 team in the United States, and a team that we took down to the wire and lost to in the first round of the playoffs last year, is our opponent this Friday for our last scrimmage of the year. It never feels like a scrimmage. The stands are full, the lights come on, and it’s a playoff game from the get go. We can show what we’re all about with this scrimmage, and I have everything to prove. All eyes will be on this scrimmage in Cincinnati, with major implications on how the season will play out in Region 4. I need to prove that I can take our team to the next level, that I am worthy of my ranking, and that I’m worthy of being a Notre Dame commitment.

I cannot wait until this Friday. My teammates and I are ready to show what we can do. The next blog will tell how everything went, so stay tuned!

Thanks for reading!

P.S. I went golfing today because Dayne and Kyle always go golfing, and I don’t want to embarrass myself when I go with them…First three balls were deep in the rough, next was in the water, and the next one went maybe 20 yards beyond the tee. Who ever heard of a quarterback that couldn’t golf?? Looks like I have some serious work to do on and off the field!
