Through the fall and into the winter, Archbishop Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller quarterback, and Notre Dame verbal commit Andrew Hendrix, will be writing a guest blog for Irish Sports Daily, chronicling his senior season, while also talking about anything else that comes his way.

Hello Notre Dame Fans and welcome back to my blog!

Allow me to first give a shout out to Coach Stofko who reads this blog weekly!

It is truly a miracle that I am typing the blog this week after nearly suffering a heart attack from our first game of the season. Never in a quarterback’s wildest dreams does he expect to be down 21 points before he has even touched the football! Thus was the case this opening weekend when a kickoff return for a touchdown and two kickoff return botches turned into three scores for our opponent Winton Woods.

Our team, a heavy favorite, could not believe our eyes as we were down 21 points not even four minutes into the first quarter. As for myself and our captains, there was never any doubt about coming back. When our offense got the ball on our next three possessions, we scored almost at will with a timely passing game and vicious ground attack.

On the night, I was 11 of 22 for 89 yards, with some drops and a few miscues here and there. I played pretty well, but there is always room for improvement. I only tossed the ball twice the entire second half, with big plays on the ground and a defensive score and two special team scores as well.

Jokingly, I asked our coach if he even needed an offense because we were down 21 without touching the field, and then scored 21 unanswered without touching the field! Talking with my head coach after the game, he thought I kept our team morale up when we were down and showed good leadership, something I strive to get better at and a necessity at the position. I am glad this crazy game happened. It showed our team that we may be down, but we will never be out. It also showed us that we can’t afford making these mistakes in the GCL South or in the playoffs. This game will go a long way for making our squad better.

Notre Dame opens up this week and I am so glad that I get the chance to go to my first game in South Bend . I am incredibly excited and cannot wait to see the atmosphere of a game at Notre Dame Stadium and an opening day win! I was checking my schedule and the USC game is during our homecoming. I figured I can only go to my senior homecoming once, but the ND-USC game for the rest of my life (as much as it will kill me to miss this one!). I look forward to meeting some of you this week!

Thanks again for reading. This week we play Hamilton Big Blue, so it should be a very good matchup, with similar schemes as last week’s opponent, so I will see you then.

Go Irish!!!
