Through the fall and into the winter, Archbishop Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller quarterback, and Notre Dame verbal commit Andrew Hendrix, will be writing a guest blog for Irish Sports Daily, chronicling his senior season, while also talking about anything else that comes his way.
Hello Notre Dame Fans, and welcome to my blog!
What a fantastic weekend it was all around! Friday night a great victory on the road, Saturday an incredible visit to South Bend and seeing a Notre Dame victory, and Sunday attending the greatest fireworks show in the Midwest, the WEBN Labor Day fireworks on the Ohio River!
Friday night, the Moeller Fighting Crusaders took on the Hamilton Big Blue on the road. It was a beautiful Ohio night for football, with it being 70 degrees and not a cloud in sight. Flashbacks of last week jolted our team as we fumbled the opening kickoff, but we recovered as the entire visitor stands sighed in relief. It was to be a great night for our offensive unit, and my breakout game as well. Our first drive of 80 yards ended in my first touchdown pass of the season. I was on top of my game as was our offensive line, receivers, and running back Richie Dyer, who recorded three scores and over 100 yards rushing. Personally, I was 16-of-21 passing for 205 yards and two scores. We ran the ball well, passed well, and our defense stepped up when we needed them to, for a 47-20 victory over the Big Blue, and a 2-0 start to our season.
After the game, I hustled home and tried to get as much sleep as I could. We left the next morning at 6am for South Bend!
Although the drive is never pleasant, the minute we got there, we knew how much it was worth it. The tailgating, the fans, everything was just how I imagined it would be. The place was rocking and it was still five hours before kickoff!
I walked around and people were asking for pictures and autographs because they knew me. It was incredible. I thanked them afterwards, because it was such an honor to be signing Notre Dame apparell! It was truly a dream come true.
After revisiting with the staff, I got to meet the other recruits while there. A couple of the already committed players were there too, in Daniel Smith and Justin Utupo. In talking with them, I understood why I chose Notre Dame. It is just a different breed of football player they look for. They are great people. The way they talk, act, and interact with everyone around them, is incredible and I truly look forward to spending the next four or five years with them. We got along great, especially Daniel, who I will be throwing touchdowns to later in our careers!
Along with that, Notre Dame put on a great show! Seeing the stadium, the fans, the student section, it is amazing that I will get to be a part of that. I simply cannot wait until I can dawn the Blue and Gold. After the game, I talked with Dayne (Crist), Kyle (Rudolph), and Jimmy (Clausen), and they are all such nice guys. They stop what they are doing and come over and say hello. It is just a different thing at Notre Dame. You have the best of the best in football, but they are better people than they are football players, and that says a lot.
I hope one day, that I will be able to hold myself to such standards like they do and make Notre Dame proud.
Go Irish!
