Through the fall and into the winter, Archbishop Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller quarterback, and Notre Dame verbal commit Andrew Hendrix, will be writing a guest blog for Irish Sports Daily, chronicling his senior season, while also talking about anything else that comes his way.
Hello Notre Dame Fans, and welcome back to the fifth edition of my blog!
This week, not to be outdone by last week, was chalk full of heart-wrenching plays, a down-to-the-wire win, and an interesting day within the college football ranks.
The Moeller Crusaders traveled 50 minutes north to visit the Centerville Elks and their varsity squad last Friday night. The beautiful town was shut down and the stadium was jam-packed with 11,000-plus screaming fans ready to watch this battle.
In my experience as a varsity player, it is one of the best atmospheres I have ever played in, and it will surely help prepare me for the big stage at the next level. We fell behind 10-7 at the half, but after a couple rough series, we finally broke the game open on a couple runs by myself down to the Centerville two, where our running back punched it in. The next series after a Centerville turnover, we were faced with a 3rd-and-25 from their 41. It was this play that my coach called the best of my career. We called verticals and on the snap Centerville brought pressure. I looked off the safety left, stepped up in the pocket, and delivered a ball as hard as I possibly could, 35 yards on a rope to their five, and our receiver did the rest for a Crusader touchdown.
I finished 6-of-15 for 79 yards, not a very good stat line, but a win is a win, and I played very well for our squad. With some drops and miscommunications here and there, I have always said stats do not show how you play, and Friday was evidence of that again. As long as I keep getting better and our team keeps winning, statistics aren’t worth the quarrel.
The Irish played well this week and it killed me to see them fall to the Wolverines. Tate Forcier is a special player and he willed Michigan to a victory. I heard Coach Weis’ quote, “just because we could’ve won, doesn’t mean we should have won” and I took it to heart. Notre Dame could have won the game, and probably should have, but it doesn’t matter. You just have to prepare for next week, and I have faith that the Irish will get back on track and continue having the strong season they are capable of having.
At night I went to the Cincinnati game vs Southeastern Missouri State, and although I have committed to Notre Dame, I am still a huge UC fan and the atmosphere. It is great to see my hometown school doing well!
This week we play Findlay at Findlay, another great place to play a football game so hopefully I can come back next week still undefeated!
