Through the fall and into the winter, Archbishop Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller quarterback, and Notre Dame verbal commit Andrew Hendrix, will be writing a guest blog for Irish Sports Daily, chronicling his senior season, while also talking about anything else that comes his way.
Hello Notre Dame Fans, and welcome to my blog!
It is another week gone by, and another victory for the Moeller Crusaders. Our varsity squad bested the Mentor Cardinals, a big public school team from Cleveland, 48-7. Our team played very well on both sides of the ball using our size to overwhelm the Cardinals.
Our rushing game continues to dominate, with our four-pronged attack, consisting of two juniors and one senior running back, along with myself, combining for over 250 yards.
I was 11-of-19 passing for 123 yards and a score, with a large majority of those coming on a pre-halftime drive that started at our own 25-yard line, with 1:08 on the clock and one timeout. We marched down the field and scored with 12 seconds left. It was great to show our team and everyone in attendance that even if we didn’t need to pass to win, we could!
The competition looks to get stiffer each week, and less domination in the trenches will force us to air it out. I cannot wait for this to happen. I constantly have to defend my stats to people, but it does not bother me. I am getting better every week, refining my game and picking up on little details that will make me a better player. I am very happy with the way I am playing, my passes are crisp and on time, with good zip. I am controlling the game well and keeping our turnovers down. If we keep staying relatively balanced, this team could go a long way.
In the rankings this week, our team moved to second in the city behind Elder, and 20th in the nation. A lofty ranking but in my opinion well deserved. What we don’t deserve is to keep the ranking if we don’t play well. It’s an honor to be ranked so high, but it means nothing if we don’t prove it's true! This week we play a Michigan team called Highland Park. They are very fast, and very athletic, so we will look to pound them early and keep them down.
What a game Notre Dame! I caught the back half of the game, and man was it a doozy! Dayne got in which I loved to see, and Jimmy came back in for the final drives and threw the game-winner to Kyle which was awesome!! My family went wild and after the game I texted Golic to ease up on the drama because it was killing me. He responded “you and me both!” I texted Golic and Dayne congratulating them, and they both are nice enough guys to chat with me after their win. It just really shows the kind of guys they are. (If you have never had the pleasure of talking to Mike Golic Jr you are truly missing out!)
Next week should be an awesome game with Washington, and I am looking forward to seeing another Irish Victory!!!
Go Irish!
