The Notre Dame football team won’t be the only squad on campus hosting recruits this weekend.

The Irish basketball team will have an official visitor in 6-foot-9, 212-pound forward Eric Katenda (Wichita, Kan./Sunrise Christian Academy). The four-star prospect has narrowed his list to three schools and has already visited his other two finalists, Wake Forest and Iowa.

The Deamon Deacons are Katenda’s current leader.

“I really liked the Wake Forest visit,” he said. “I enjoyed Iowa’s visit, but I liked Wake better. Notre Dame has been recruiting me for about two years now, so I’m looking forward to that visit too.”

Katenda will arrive in South Bend on Thursday evening and will stay until Sunday.

“I’ve been wanting to check it out for a year now,” he said. “I’d like to talk to the players first of all, the players and coaching staff to see how I get along with those guys. I want to check out the school, talk to some people around the school, see the program and see the computer program a little bit. Just learn more about the school.”

Katenda - who said he likes to watch football, but isn’t a huge fan - will attend the Blue-Gold Game on Saturday.

“I guess I’m lucky enough to get a chance to watch them play,” he said of the Irish football team. “I’m excited to see that too.”

There was some talk about a fourth school entering the race, but sounds like Katenda will pick from his current three.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen,” he said. “It’s getting kind of late and the three schools that are recruiting me right now are great schools.”

While Katenda named Wake Forest as his leader, he added that could change after visiting Notre Dame. He plans to make a decision a week or so after the visit.

“I’m not going to commit while I’m there, but I’m definitely going to look at it,” he said. “If I fall in love with the school, I might commit a few days after.”
