Demetrius Jackson is nearing a college decision.

“You could put it that way,” the 6-foot-1, 180-pound junior combo guard said.

That could mean the Notre Dame basketball program is close to wrapping up its 2013 recruiting class.

Jackson, from nearby Mishawaka, Ind., has offers from Notre Dame, Butler, Michigan State and Xavier, but the Irish seem to be trending in a more positive direction than the others at this point.

He will be at Notre Dame’s home game against Pittsburgh on Tuesday night.

“I’m on my way out there right now,” Jackson told Irish Sports Daily on Tuesday evening. “I’m really excited. It’s going to be a good game.”

The 2013 prospect has been to the campus in South Bend several times over the past few months, including a stop by for a practice this past weekend.

“I just watched them work out and watched the intensity in their practice,” said Jackson. “I watched how they do it over there during the practices. I just enjoyed that.”

The Marian High School junior isn’t exactly sure when he’ll announce his decision.

“I’m not 100 percent sure, so I don’t want to give you the wrong day,” he said.

But it’s coming and Notre Dame is clearly in a solid position. Jackson couldn’t pick out just one thing he liked about the Irish.

“Everything really,” he said. “They’ve got great coaches, great players, a great fan base. Everything.”

Jackson hasn’t taken any other recent visits and when asked what other schools he’s considering besides the Irish, he said, “Just the ones that have offered me, that’s about it.”

Jackson would cap a 2013 recruiting haul for Notre Dame that already includes swingman V.J. Beachem and guard/forward Steve Vasturia. The Irish are looking for a point guard and while Jackson could also play off the ball, he could certainly fit that role for Notre Dame.

Jackson’s decision could come before the end of Christmas break.
