Celina (Texas) quarterback Nathan Elliott could hardly wait to see Notre Dame in action this past weekend after being invited to the contest by the Irish, so when he arrived in Dallas last Saturday, he was ready to see what this Irish offense was all about.
“I had a lot of fun and it was definitely an exciting game," said Elliott. "I thought the uniforms, that Notre Dame wore, were really cool and they played some really good football. It was definitely something fun to be a part of.
"I really like the offense that Notre Dame runs. I'm not sure if the quarterback they have right now can run very well, but I feel like I could come in, with my running ability, and add another aspect to the game that would help it be more dynamic.
“Don't get me wrong, because I think Tommy Rees is a good quarterback who throws the ball very well, but I thought there were spots in the game where a running quarterback could've escaped and made a big play and that's just my opinion being a duel-threat quarterback.”
The droves of Irish faithful also left an impression on the Celina standout.
“I was surprised by how many Notre Dame fans were in Texas for the game and it was kind of cool seeing them fill the stands,” he claimed. “It was definitely cool to see just how big their fan base was and that they’ll travel anywhere to see them play.”
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect has already been attracting recruiting attention from all around the nation, including interest from Notre Dame. Currently, he's holding offers from North Carolina and Army, but he has a feeling more will be coming in fairly soon and he hopes the Irish are one of those that deem him worthy.
“I'm not really sure where Notre Dame and I will be going to go from here because I really haven't had the chance to talk to the coaches yet to see just how interested they are in me,” shared Elliott. “I have been receiving mail from them, but I'm not sure if they plan on offering me or really what they're thinking right now.
“I know I'm definitely interested in them, because it's a big time program for football and academics, and it would definitely be a big deal to me to have an offer from Notre Dame.”
What if that Irish offer does come in?
“If I do end up getting that offer from Notre Dame, they'll instantly jump into my top three.”
