Four-star offensive tackle and U.S. Army All-American Matt James (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) went back and forth on Notre Dame and Ohio State for the past two days.
At 8:30 p.m. last night, the 6-foot-7, 290-pound James said he knew.
The Irish landed a big one.
On Wednesday morning, James confirmed with ISD that he faxed in his letter-of-intent in to Notre Dame and head coach Brian Kelly.
“It was neck and neck between Ohio State and Notre Dame the whole time,” James said. “I really liked the opportunity coming into the program and starting something new. It’s the start of a program turning it around with coach Kelly, and being in that first recruiting class is something that is going to be unique and special.”
James also had scholarship offers from the likes of Florida, Cincinnati, Tennessee, Penn State Boston College and Stanford. Special is what he felt the numerous times he visited the Irish campus.
“I think the comfort level of being on the campus. Almost every time I visited I enjoyed my time being there. I enjoyed all the players there."
James is the 22nd player to join Notre Dame’s class-of-2010 recruiting class and third offensive linemen, joining Christian Lombard (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) and Tate Nichols (Union, Ky./Ryle). His high school teammate, quarterback Luke Massa, also inked with the Irish.
