Arvada, Colo. (Arvada West High School) offensive lineman Paul Thurston has taken his first unofficial visit and has cemented a couple others.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound Thurston has offers from Notre Dame, Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Stanford and Utah. He was at Nebraska’s spring game last weekend.

“It was great,” he said of his trip to Lincoln. “I had a good time there, seeing the campus, talking to some professors and watching the game. I had a great time.

“I got to talk to Coach Bo Pelini and (offensive line coach Barney) Cotton. That was very helpful. They basically told me where they see me in the program and what they like about me. Coach Pelini told me he sees me fitting in as a guard in the new program. He likes my ability to pull and all of that. It was a great time.”

Thurston didn’t get to see the entire campus, but he was impressed with what he did see.

“I really liked it,” he said. “I didn’t go around the campus too much, but I saw the whole athletic and academic section they had there for the student-athletes. I really liked what they had to offer there.”

Next up for Thurston is a visit to Oregon for the Ducks’ spring game on April 30th followed by a pair of trips to the Midwest. Thurston wasn’t sure if Michigan head coach Brady Hoke would be on campus for the visit he planned to Ann Arbor next month, but he’ll be making that visit along with another one.

“We did set it up,” Thurston said of the Michigan trip. “He’s going to be there, so we’ll definitely be going out there. I’ve been talking with Coach (Tony) Alford and we’ll be able to swing down to Notre Dame and see them at the same time.”

Thurston stays in regular contact with Alford, who is responsible for recruiting Colorado for the Irish.

“He’s been saying he wants to get me up there and show me the program and what they have going on there,” said Thurston.

Thurston doesn’t have any other visits planned, but said, “We might be going for a couple others, but we haven’t set anything up.”

Thurston doesn’t have a timetable for a decision, but has been consistent in saying he wants to make his choice while all of his options are still on the table.
