Recruiting is really picking up for 2013 Lexington Catholic (Lexington, Ky.) quarterback Kyle Bolin and he’s enjoying every minute of it.
The 6-foot-2, 187-pound sophomore already had an offer from Illinois and recently just added his second one to his résumé.
“I got offered by Louisville last week,” claimed Bolin. “It feels really good to start getting these college offers.
“When I received my first offer from Illinois, I was kind of surprised and shocked that I got offered as a sophomore. Now, being able to be offered by an in-state school that I’ve followed for a long time, I’m just ecstatic. I really believe that Louisville will be an up-and-coming team with head coach Charlie Strong and quarterback coach Shawn Watson. It’s an honor that they’ve offered me already.”
With the shock factor now fading, the Kentucky prospect hopes to raise his stock by taking as many visits as he can this upcoming year and getting his name out there.
“I went and visited Vanderbilt (on Monday),” said the 2013 quarterback. “I got to meet their coaching staff and their facilities were great. I really think this new coaching staff is going to turn Vanderbilt around, and I think they are going to be a tough force in the SEC in the next couple years.
“I’m high on their list and they can really see me playing football at Vanderbilt. Their coach said he has no problem offering a 2013 player, but they want to really evaluate them, whether it’s on film or in person, plus they have to see the transcripts before they offer.”
He also knows that for his dreams to come true, he has to work even harder than he had last year and the preparation started a few months ago.
“We get to have spring ball, but it’s different than other places and kind of weird,” said Bolin. “We get to have it for a week after basketball season ends, so if you have a bad basketball team you have to have your practices in January. If you have a good team like we had this year, and they make it far in the playoffs, you can have your spring practices in late-March.
“We had a good spring practice session for a young team. We saw a lot of good things out of some young players stepping up. The offense looked great and the defense looks like it’s coming together really well. Overall, I was impressed with how we played our intersquad spring game and I’m really excited for this upcoming season.”
One school he hopes to continue to impress with his play is Notre Dame, and even though running back coach Tim Hinton wasn’t able to make his scheduled visit to Lexington last week, the Irish still remain one of his top schools and he has already started to consider a South Bend visit.
“They were supposed to come down last week, but they weren’t able to make the trip,” said Bolin. “I’m not sure when they will be back, but they told my coach they plan to stop by again when they can.
“I definitely plan on getting up to Notre Dame, hopefully for their camp. Everything is going to depend on the economy and exactly when their camp is and if it will fit our schedule. If for some reason I can’t attend their camp, I will make it to one of their games this season.”
