The North Florida Christian (Tallahassee, Fla.) Eagles are entering the 2011 football season with extremely high expectations. With several players returning from last year’s 6-4 team, including Notre Dame targets Travis Blanks and Dallas Griffiths, it’s hard not to be optimistic about the possibilities for a deep playoff run this upcoming season.

“We just finished our spring practices and we’ll play our spring game tonight,” North Florida Christian head coach Robert Craft said on Thursday. “I feel we’ve had a real good spring and we’re fortunate to have 19 seniors returning to this year’s team with Travis and Dallas helping to lead the way.”

Blanks, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound four-star athlete, has already amassed over 30 offers from some of the top schools in the nation, and according to his head coach it’s easy to see why everybody in the nation wants him.

“With Travis, it’s his leadership and work ethic, no doubt,” claimed Craft. “Everything else about him falls in line after those two qualities. He’s just a dynamic football player and great overall person.”

Then there’s Griffiths.

“Dallas has every physical tool you would want at a linebacker,” said the head coach. “He’s 6-foot-2, 225 pounds, and runs a 4.5 in the 40-yard-dash. He’s the strongest guy on our team and, quite possibly, one of the fastest. He’s got it all, but he’s just got to find the right fit, personnel-wise.

“Dallas has been offered by Georgia Tech, Southern Mississippi and Western Kentucky. He’s got a lot of other schools evaluating him right now, and I believe a bunch of the schools are getting ready to pull the trigger. It’s just a matter of time.”

With spring practice soon to be in the books, the next order of business will be to start planning for the summer.

“We are going to wait until this month is over and then sit down and discuss where those guys might want to go,” said the North Florida Christian coach. “Travis is in a little bit different category then Dallas, seeing he has so many offers, so we have to see just which places Travis is serious about. Dallas, on the other hand, is going to have to choose places where he can potentially go and work out so coaches can evaluate him in person.”

How has Notre Dame’s interest been recently for the dynamic duo?

“Notre Dame has been on campus twice already to see both players,” said Craft. “First it was Coach (Tim) Hinton and then it was Coach (Chuck) Martin. They’re recruiting both of them and as you know, they’ve already offered Blanks, but they’re still evaluating Griffiths. They say they like both of them a lot, but I don’t think they have as much need at linebacker right now, and I believe that’s part of the reason Notre Dame is still just evaluating Dallas.

Is there any chance that Blanks and Griffiths make it to South Bend anytime soon?

“They’re trying to get both players up to camp this summer,” said Craft. “They see Blanks as a guy who could play early for them somewhere in the secondary, either at safety or corner. With Dallas, they really do like him, but I think that is all going to depend on if they feel they need a linebacker.

“They’re not going to be able to visit everywhere, so they’re going to have to look at the calendar and see what fits their schedule. Who knows, they may both have interest in visiting Notre Dame and decide to get up there.”
