Ever since he received an offer from the University of Notre Dame, CJ Prosise knew it was where he wanted to go and he didn’t want to wait anymore, so last Thursday, he picked up the phone and called Irish offensive coordinator Charley Molnar and committed.
“It was something I had a lot of time to think about,” the 6-foot-2, 206-pound safety from Woodberry Forest, Va., said. “I was like, ‘I don’t know how anything can get better than Notre Dame and that’s where I want to be.'
“Notre Dame is a great school, it’s in a great place with a lot of great traditions. I just feel like I want to be a part of that.”
Prosise’s parents agreed with his decision.
“They loved it,” Prosise said. “They love Notre Dame. They’re my first influences. When I got the offer, my mom loved it and said, ‘This should be the school you pick.’ My dad said, ‘Great football, great academics, you really can’t get better than this.’”
Molnar certainly agreed with Prosise’s decision.
“He was definitely, definitely excited that they picked up another DB for one of the best DB classes in the nation,” said Prosise.
And so did Woodberry Forest High School coach Clint Alexander, who was the last to find out. Alexander may have been surprised when he learned of Prosise’s commitment last Friday, but it was definitely a pleasant surprise.
“He was excited,” Prosise said of Alexander. “He loves Notre Dame. He was telling me how I was the first person ever at my school that had such an opportunity like this.”
Prosise said he’s still getting congratulated as he walks around his high school, “Everybody’s excited about Notre Dame.”
One of the only people Prosise has yet to hear from is Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly, but that will happen this weekend when Prosise and his parents step foot on the campus in South Bend for the first time.
“I’m excited to see the school and meet the coaches and everything,” he said. “I’ve seen it online and it’s a great campus and I feel like I would get a positive vibe when I go there.”
Eventually, Prosise expects to get close with his fellow commitments and future teammates, especially the defensive backs.
“It’s definitely a great honor to be a part of such a great class coming in, and hopefully, it becomes a great defense while we’re there,” he said.
The excitement from those around him have reinforced his commitment, but Prosise was already convinced.
“They say picking a college is a life-altering decision and I feel like I made the right one.”
