Armani Reeves is starting to get a little bit of clarity with regard to the recruiting process, but he’s still got a ways to go.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete from West Roxbury, Mass., (Catholic Memorial) recently saw his top five schools became a top four with the elimination of Michigan, one of his co-favorites.
“I wasn’t ready to commit, so we both decided to continue on without each other,” Reeves said of the split with the Wolverines.
That leaves Penn State as Reeves’ leader with Boston College, Stanford and Notre Dame rounding out his top four. Reeves will get his first look at Notre Dame’s campus next week, when he visits on June 20th. Reeves isn’t exactly sure what the visit will entail, but he is excited.
“We haven’t talked about it yet, we just made it official,” said Reeves. “I’m going to call Coach (Bob) Diaco soon to find out exactly what we’re going to do on the visit.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the campus. This will be my first time up there and get to know the coaches a little bit more and see some of the players.”
The Irish had been recruiting Reeves as an athlete, but it sounds like they’ve narrowed their focus to receiver and returner, which is fine with him.
“Being the slot receiver, you get to do a lot more,” said Reeves. “You get to be in the running game a little bit and you get to be up against linebackers, so it’s easy for you to get open. I like it a lot and with the spread offense they have up there, I can definitely help and be a major impact for them.”
Penn State has told the versatile athlete he could play receiver and/or corner while Boston College likes him at receiver and Stanford could let him play both.
“Stanford said they like me at corner and I could be a third-down receiver for them,” he said. “BC just wants me at wide receiver.”
Reeves is excited about the prospect of playing both ways.
“It’s a great experience and to be able to play both ways is a blessing to have that option,” he said.
Reeves was at Boston College a couple of weeks ago and will return to Penn State for another visit shortly after checking out South Bend. A trip to Stanford will probably have to wait until the fall.
“It’s not looking like it right now because of the prices of flights and everything,” he said of a possible visit to Palo Alto. “Hopefully, they’ll let me take an official visit there.”
Reeves isn’t in any hurry to make a decision.
“Hopefully I can do all of my official visits and make my decision,” he said. “If everything plays out that way, that’s how I’m going to do it.”
