Reggie Davis hasn’t had any direct contact with the Notre Dame coaching staff, but the indirect contact he’s had has been substantial. The 6-foot, 160-pound wide receiver from Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Fla., was recently informed that the Irish had offered him a scholarship.

“My coach told me they offered me when I was at the 7-on-7 camp at Alabama this past weekend,” Davis said. “I was just shocked, they were my second offer. It was just good hearing that.”

Davis tried reaching out to the Irish staff, but was unsuccessful.

“I haven’t talked to them yet,” he said. “I called him twice, but he didn’t answer.”

Davis’ other offer is from Florida, which he received a week before the Irish offer, and he’s also received interest from Florida State and Auburn. Davis isn’t taking the early interest for granted.

“It feels good, but I’ve still got to work hard and still do good for these last years of high school,” he said.

Davis had 11 catches for 208 yards and two touchdowns as a sophomore, but made a huge impact in special teams. The Florida speedster said he averaged over 50 yards per kickoff return and returned three kickoffs for touchdowns as a sophomore. Davis runs a 10.81 in the 100-meter dash. It’s not surprising what college coaches are impressed with when they pop in his film.

“Speed,” said Davis. “Speed and effort.”

Location won’t be a major factor in Davis’ recruitment, even with the hometown Seminoles involved.

“Not really, it all depends on majors and how their graduation process is and everything,” he said. “Academics and graduation rates and which fields they’re good in.”

At this point, Davis doesn’t know much about Notre Dame and he hasn’t taken any visits other than camps, although he’s hoping to make some soon. Still, he knows there’s no reason to rush.

“I’m just now entering my junior year, so I’ve still got time to plan that.”
