With the 2012 high school football season entering the homestretch, ISD will be keeping you up to date with who the Notre Dame's commitments will be playing on a weekly basis and also giving you the final results of those games on Mondays.
2013 Commits
Malik Zaire QB Archbishop Alter:
Archbishop Alter (8-1-1) will open up the playoffs on Saturday as they take on the Shawnee Braves (7-3).
Zaire has been a dominating force all year for the Knights and is looking to lead his team to a state championship.
These teams did not play each other last season.
Jamel James RB Cinco Ranch:
Cinco Ranch (6-2) will be looking to pick up their fourth win in a row this Saturday when they play undefeated Katy (8-0) at Rhodes Stadium.
James and the Cougars will have their hands full as they face a nationally ranked team in Katy (#40 by MaxPreps) loaded with Division I prospects, including four-star running back, Adam Taylor.
Katy's offense has been averaging around 53 points-per-game and the defense that's only surrendering 11 points-per-game.
Last season, Katy destroyed Cinco Ranch, 38-7.
Will Fuller WR Roman Catholic:
Roman Catholic (5-3) opens up playoff action with the Saturday game against La Salle College (8-1).
This is the same team that Roman Catholic loss to two weeks earlier, 28-14.
James Onwualu WR Cretin-Derham:
The Raiders finished the season (6-3) and lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Woodbury Royals (4-5), 21-14.
Corey Robinson WR San Antonio Christian:
The San Antonio Christian Lions (5-3) will be looking to pick up their fifth win in-a-row tonight when they travel to Austin, Texas to face the Regents Knights (6-2).
Robinson has been putting up huge numbers each and every week and will look to do the same tonight against a Knight defense that gives up around 22 points-per-game.
These teams didn't play each other last season.
Torii Hunter, Jr. WR Prosper:
Hunter Jr. and the Eagles (7-1) traveled to Frisco, Texas on Thursday to take on the Liberty Redhawks (3-5) and came away with a win, 28-13.
Hunter had seven catches for 117 yards and a touchdown.
I couldn't find an article on this game.
Mike Heuerman TE Barron Collier:
Barron Collier (5-3) will host a struggling Palmetto Ridge (1-8) tonight at Barron Collier High School.
This'll more than likely will be a blowout with Palmetto Ridge giving up over 35 points-per-game.
Last season, Barron Collier pulled out a close game against Palmetto Ridge by the score, 12-7.
Hunter Bivin OL Apollo:
Apollo (2-8) will start the playoffs tonight against one of the top teams in the state of Kentucky, Bowling Green (10-0).
This is definitely not good news for Apollo and could more than likely be over by halftime. With Bowling Green scoring approximately 41 points-per-game and Apollo's defense surrendering over 33 points-per-game, it just doesn't look very good for the Eagles.
Last season, Apollo opened up the playoffs against Bowling Green and were demolished, 57-6.
Steven Elmer OL Midland:
The Chemics (10-0) will play their second game of the playoffs tonight when the battle Traverse City Central (9-1).
This could be one of the most entertaining games on the schedule tonight as both teams are extremely explosive on offense (Midland 30 points-per-game and Traverse City Central 38 points-per-game). Each defense will have their work cut out for them.
These teams didn't play each other last season.
Mike McGlinchey OL Penn Charter:
Penn Charter (3-4) has a bye week.
Colin McGovern OL Lincoln-Way West:
Lincoln-Way West (7-3) has drawn undefeated Kaneland (10-0) for their second game in the Illinois state playoffs.
The Lincoln-Way West defense will have their hands full trying to stop a Knight offense that's averaging 43 points-per-game, but if a team can give them a run for their money it would be the Warriors who are only surrendering around 12 points-per-game.
These teams didn't play each other last season.
John Montelus OL Everett:
The Everett Crimson Tide (7-1) will host the winless Somerville Highlanders (0-7) tonight at Everett Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Everett will probably win this game handily, but I don't see them being a complete pushover as most of their losses have been competitive.
Last season, Everett dismantled Somerville, 48-12.
Jacob Matuska DE Bishop Hartley:
Bishop Hartley (10-0) will open up the 2012 state playoffs against Upper Sandusky (7-3).
Upper Sandusky has had a pretty successful season, but they haven't faced a team the caliber of Bishop Hartley, who has just rolled over everyone this year. The hawk offense is scoring over 44 points-per-game and the defense is only giving up seven points-per-game.
These teams didn't play each other last season.
Isaac Rochell DE Eagle’s Landing Christian:
Eagle’s Landing Christian (7-1) will travel to Atlanta, Georgia tonight to face Pace Academy (2-6).
This probably won't be very pretty as Eagle's Landing has been crushing everyone that gets in their way scoring over 47 points-per-game.
These teams didn't play each other last season.
Alex Anzalone LB Wyomissing:
Wyomissing (9-0) will wrap up the regular season by hosting fellow undefeated Berks Catholic (9-0) at Wyomissing High School on Saturday.
This will be Wyomissing's toughest contest the season and should be a very good game with both teams seeming to be mirror images of each other.
Last season, Wyomissing shut-out Berks Catholic, 35-0.
Michael Deeb LB American Heritage:
American Heritage (7-1) will look to pick up their seventh win in-a-row tonight only travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to face Dillard (4-4).
Even though, Dillard has been quite a few close games. I don't think this will be one of them, since the patriots are scoring almost 48 points-per-game and only surrendering around 12.
Last season, American Heritage defeated Dillard, 25-21.
Danny Mattingly LB Mead Senior:
Mead (8-2) will open up the Washington state playoffs tonight against the Richland Bombers (5-3).
This should be a fairly easy win for Mattingly and the Panthers.
These teams didn't play each other last season.
Jaylon Smith LB Bishop Luers:
The Knights (7-4) will be going for the sectional championship tonight when they face Churubusco (10-1).
Bishop Luers is trying to make a run at a third straight state championship and Eagles are a very big obstacle standing in the way of that goal.
Churubusco is averaging close to 42 points-per-game and only surrendering about 11. Smith and the Knights will have to bring their 'A' game if they hope to advance to the regionals.
Last season, Bishop Luers defeated Churubusco in the playoffs, 34-7.
Doug Randolph and Greer Martini (2014) LB’s Woodberry Forest:
Woodberry Forest (6-2) will travel to Fort Union, Virginia tonight for their game against Fort Union Military Academy (8-2).
This will be the Tigers toughest game in a long time and should be fairly close throughout the contest.
Last season, Woodberry Forest beat Fort Union Military Academy, 35-21.
Devin Butler CB Gonzaga:
Gonzaga (7-2) will close out the regular season Saturday against the St. John's Cadets (5-4).
Gonzaga is looking to keep the momentum they built in last week's big win over DeMatha and is hoping there isn't a letdown.
Last season, Gonzaga defeated St. John's, 13-10.
Cole Luke CB Hamilton:
Hamilton (8-3) will have a playoff game tonight against the Highland Hawks (6-4).
Luke, Notre Dame's newest commit, has helped lead the Huskies defense to surrendering only 14 points-per-game this season.
These teams didn't play each other last season.
Rashad Kinlaw CB Absegami:
Absegami (5-2) is scheduled to host Atlantic City (5-2) tonight at Absegami High School.
Kinlaw, who had been out all season with a leg injury he received with the U.S. National team, was back in action and made his presence felt last week.
These teams seem to be evenly matched, so it should be a very good game.
Last season, Absegami loss to Atlantic City, 32-27.
2014 Commits
Justin Brent WR Speedway:
Speedway's (7-4) season came to an end losing to undefeated Cardinal Ritter (11-0), 49-21.
