Mike Elston couldn’t talk with Ethan Wolf when the Notre Dame assistant coach visited Minster High School (Minster, Ohio) last week, but he did talk to the 2014 tight end’s head coach, Nate Moore.

“Coach Elston was in to talk to Coach Moore before school,” said Wolf. “I didn’t get to talk to him, I can’t really, but I saw him driving out as I pulled in.

“Coach Moore relayed some information about what they were talking about. Junior Day is probably going to end up being the time I get to Notre Dame next for. It sounded like it was a good informational visit from that standpoint. I called him last week and he mentioned that they wanted to get me down there for the Junior Day.”

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Wolf already has offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Pittsburgh and Indiana among others and is also receiving interest from other programs that have been at Minster this month.

“Illinois has been in the past three weeks,” said Wolf. “Michigan State was in, Iowa, Penn State was in and Indiana was in. There have been quite a few schools in.”

Even though as a junior, Wolf’s contact is limited when the coaches visit, the trips still get his attention.

“It really makes you feel good about what you’ve been doing and your progress in their eyes,” he said. “Personally, I feel better that they’re still interested and are making the long road trips to come to my school to talk to my coach out of all of the other players they could go see. I feel really fortunate that they’re still making their way to Minster High School and showing their interest in me.”

Wolf has received invites to several junior days, but isn’t exactly sure which ones he will make.

“It’s all a matter of how much time I have,” he said. “I’d love to get to every junior day that I could, but with basketball we really haven’t made out a definite schedule yet of where we’re going to go in the winter and spring.”

Wolf has made a pair of trips to Notre Dame this year and is looking forward to the opportunity to return sometime in 2013.

“I went up for a game and the camp,” he said. “I said hi to some of the coaches, but I’d really like to personally meet some more of the coaches on the staff. I have a pretty good relationship with Coach (Scott) Booker, the tight ends coach, and Coach Elston because he recruits this area. I’d like to meet Coach (Brian) Kelly and some of the other staff.

“I’ve been through the football facilities, but I’d like to get a little more thorough tour of the campus.”

Wolf isn’t going to rush a decision, but if he had his way, he’d get it done before next fall.

“Personally, I would like to have one before my senior football season. That way I can be fully dedicated on making my team better and being a senior leader and hopefully leading us to a state championship.”
