It'd been in the works for some time now, but on Wednesday, Texas running back Jamel James and Notre Dame officially parted ways.
The 5-foot-11, 218-pounder from Katy, Texas (Cinco Ranch High School) committed to the Irish in the summer before ever visiting Notre Dame. He took an official to South Bend in September and left raving about the place. But as the idea of taking visits elsewhere changed from a possibility to a reality, it became clear that James wouldn't end up as part of the Irish's 2013 recruiting haul.
The departure of James leaves the Irish with 21 current commits in the Class of 2013 and one running back, Florida's Greg Bryant. Notre Dame is also high on the list for Florida running back Tarean Folston, who will announce his decision next month.
