Since picking up an offer from Notre Dame at the Irish’s camp last summer, Andrew Trumbetti has been looking forward to returning to South Bend.
He looked into a couple possible trips in the fall and the winter, but the 2014 New Jersey defensive end couldn’t find a time that worked until now.
“Coach (Bob) Diaco came in,” the 6-foot-4, 250-pounder from Demarest, N.J. said. “We didn’t talk, but he told my coach they wanted me to come down for the Junior Day.”
Trumbetti will be in attendance for the event in South Bend on March 23rd.
“I pretty much know all about Notre Dame, but I’m really excited to watch them practice, see what their intensity is like and sit in meetings,” said Trumbetti.
His father made the trip with him for the summer camp, but Trumbetti is looking forward to showing the rest of his family Notre Dame’s campus.
“I really want my mom and my brother to finally see it,” he said. “Me and my dad are already in love with it, but I really want my mom and my brother to experience it firsthand.”
Trumbetti has had Notre Dame as his clear leader since picking up that offer last summer and that remains unchanged. He also has offers from schools like Boston College, Maryland, Michigan State, Purdue, Rutgers and Virginia and is receiving serious interest from other schools as well.
He isn’t in a rush to make a decision and has plans to check out other schools in the coming months as well.
“I’m going to Florida, Penn State, Maryland, Miami, Alabama probably,” he said.“Florida, Miami and Penn State will be before I go to Notre Dame. That’ll be my first time for all of them.”
Trumbetti would also like the chance to get out to Stanford at some point.
He may not have a timeline for a decision, but couldn’t help but think forward on National Signing Day for the Class of 2013.
“I’d like to graduate early and go during January or whenever, but it’s definitely exciting seeing possible future teammates sign,” he said. “It hasn’t really hit me yet that that’s going to be me next year.”
