Mikey Weber will be returning to Notre Dame for the third time on Saturday and the 2015 Michigan running back is looking forward to it.
“I’m going to be excited this time,” said the 5-foot-10, 195-pounder from Detroit power Cass Tech.
Weber, who will be making the trip with his Maximum Exposure 7-on-7 team, already has offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Illinois and Syracuse. Notre Dame assistant Chuck Martin has hinted that the Irish could be next.
“I talked with Coach Martin and I think I’ll probably get an offer,” Weber said. “We talked on the phone and he was talking about how school is going and stuff like that. The last time I talked to him, he told me he would like to offer me, but he wants me to come down and see it for myself and maybe they will offer me when I come down. So I’m not sure if they will, but it’s a possibility.
“An offer from Notre Dame would be really big because Notre Dame is one of my top schools. To have that as an offer in my 10th-grade year would mean a lot.”
Weber has been high on the Irish since attending their camp last summer.
“Notre Dame has a good program,” he said. “They win. It’s a good fit for me with my running style and it’s a good academic school also.”
He couldn’t work out during his first visit to South Bend last summer.
“I had an injury last year and the coach wanted me to chill out with it so I’d be good for the season,” he said. “I wanted to get out there though.”
He returned in September to see the Irish beat Michigan and ended up leaving with a towel from Theo Riddick that Weber tried to sneak on the field each game last year.
He’s excited to see his recruitment get kicked off so early.
“It’s a blessing to get offers after only one year of high school football,” he said. “I just take all of them and keep working harder to get more and make my decision later on in the process.”
He’s in no rush to make a decision, but has an idea of what he’s looking for.
“The academic side, the depth chart, the program, the facilities, the people around it and if it’s a good fit for me or not.”
Among others, Weber will be joined by his teammate, 2015 quarterback Jayru Campbell, who already has an offer from the Irish.
