Mikey Weber made his third trip to Notre Dame on Saturday, stopping with a large contingent of the Maximum Exposure 7-on-7 squad out of Michigan en route to Sunday’s Core 6 Tournament in Illinois.
While it was the first stop in South Bend for many of the 2014 and 2015 prospects, the 5-foot-10, 195-pound Weber was at Notre Dame for the Irish's camp last summer and then again for their victory over Michigan last September.
“It was nice to go up there to see the campus again, seeing the team and meeting the players again,” the 2015 Detroit running back said. “It was nice.”
Most of the visit was a repeat of things he’d already experienced, but he still enjoyed it.
“Everything I saw today, I pretty much already saw,” he said. “We got a tour of the Gug and we watched practice.”
Seeing the Irish work out was something new for the Cass Tech High School star.
“Practice was real intense,” he said. “They were moving fast and it was a good practice.”
Weber believes the Irish offense would fit his skill set.
“The way they run the ball, it’s like straight downhill,” he said. “I like that.”
Weber has kept in contact with Irish offensive coordinator Chuck Martin, who serves as his area recruiter, and touched base with him again on Saturday.
“I talked with Coach Martin too and he told me to call,” Weber said.
He also had the chance to speak with running backs coach Tony Alford.
“I talked with the coach for about five, 10 minutes,” Weber said of Alford. “He just said to come back up there and he gave me his card.”
Weber intends to get back to South Bend at some point.
“I’m going to call down there and talk to them probably next week or the week after,” he said.
Weber thought there was a chance he might add an offer from the Irish on Saturday. He didn’t, but there’s a good chance one will come relatively soon. He already has offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Illinois and Syracuse.
The Maximum Exposure group is also visiting Northwestern today before tomorrow's tournament.
