Notre Dame didn’t offer Brian Cole during the 2015 Michigan athlete’s first trip to campus, but the Irish made it clear it’s only a matter of time before they do.
“They said they really liked Brian a lot and they’re going to keep recruiting him,” Cole’s father, also named Brian, said. “They’re really impressed with him and they say they’re going to offer him, but they haven’t yet because he’s a 2015 kid.
“We really enjoyed trying to get to know everybody. Notre Dame’s got a great reputation, a lot of tradition and a smaller campus. What can I say? We had a good time.”
The younger Cole also had a great time and pointed out how unique Notre Dame’s campus is.
“It was beautiful and very nice,” said Cole. “It was different from a lot of schools because the buildings were like castles, you know sort of a back in the day feel. I really liked the facilities, the coaches and the campus overall.”
Cole holds early offers from Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State. He played quarterback, wide receiver and running back for Heritage High School last year after playing safety and corner as a freshman. Most schools are recruiting him as an athlete and the Irish are no different.
“Notre Dame said they are going to be recruiting me as an athlete,” said Cole. “They told me I could choose which side of the ball I wanted to play on. That makes me feel good that they have confidence in me and I’m blessed and thankful for the ability that God blessed me with.”
Cole doesn’t have a positional preference, but did get a good feeling from the Irish staff.
“The coaches were real nice and they treated me really well,” he said. “They didn’t treat me any different than the other players. They told me that the whole team is like family.
“It was a great visit and I enjoyed the whole experience. I like how it’s small and easy to get around that way I wouldn’t get lost.”
It’s too early for any schools to be standing out, but Notre Dame certainly made a solid impression.
“I don’t have any favorites at this point and I’m listening to all the schools recruiting me,” he said.
Cole doesn’t have any other trips planned right now, but South Bend will be on the itinerary again at some point.
“I don’t have any other visits planned at this time,” said Cole. “I know I’m definitely planning on making it back to Notre Dame again, but I’m not sure when that might be yet.”
