Notre Dame was at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena, Calif., on Wednesday to check on 2014 athlete Adoree’ Jackson.
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Jackson is one of the elite prospects in the Class of 2014 and he has a serious interest in the Irish, so it’s important for them to show him how interested they are, but Notre Dame also saw another intriguing prospect in 2015 defensive lineman Rasheem Green.
In fact, the Irish were intrigued enough to go ahead and offer the 6-foot-5, 269-pound youngster.
“The coach for Notre Dame was at my practice and he told my coach that I had an offer,” said Green. “I was really happy. I didn’t see it coming.”
Green knows a bit about the Irish and is interested in learning more in the months ahead.
“They’re one of the top programs in the nation,” he said. “They win games, they played in the national championship.”
Green also added offers from Utah and Tennessee on Wednesday and has seen how quickly an offer sheet can grow. Last month, he picked up offers from USC, Florida, Cal and Washington in a single day. He also has offers from UCLA and Miami.
“It’s a great feeling,” he said. “It’s nice to know you have a lot of choices to choose from.”
Green said his combination of size and athleticism has caught the eye of college scouts.
“They like how fast and how quick I am for my size,” he said.
It’s still early, but the youngster who wasn’t a football fan growing up and didn’t start playing until eighth grade knows of at least one thing he’ll be looking for in college when he does make a decision.
“I want to play for a good coach, a coach who knows what he’s doing.”
