Matt Womack and Notre Dame haven’t quite been able to hook up just yet, but the 2015 Mississippi lineman is hoping to soon.
The Irish wanted to get down to Hernando High School in Hernando, Miss., during the May Evaluation Period, but weren’t able to. Then they wanted to see if they could get the 6-foot-7, 330-pounder up to South Bend instead.
“They were hoping I would make it to camp, but I just couldn't make it,” Womack said.
Now Womack is hoping the two sides will be able to get connected soon.
“Well they can start calling in September,” he said. “Also, I will have new film starting Friday night. The coaches said they were very interested. So we will go from there.”
Womack is still waiting on his first offer, but is receiving interest from several SEC schools including Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Arkansas among several others.
“Ole Miss, Arkansas and Vandy the most,” he said. “Alabama wants more film. I have about 15 coaches on Twitter that follow me.”
A busy fall visit schedule should allow Womack the chance to strengthen some of those relationships.
“My dad said we're going to one every weekend,” said Womack. “I'm going to Arkansas, Ole Miss, Vandy, Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State right now. I would like to come to a Notre Dame game.”
Womack is transferring from Hernando to Magnolia Heights this season. Womack attended the private school as a youngster is excited to be returning.
“I’m very excited ,” he said. “My coaches seem to think I will dominate.”
Magnolia Heights had an impressive season in 2012 and Womack will play both ways this fall hoping to get the Chiefs over the hump.
“We lost at state last year so we feel like we're going to win it all this year.”
