Kei Beckham has a handful of early offers and the 2015 Ohio cornerback is now attracting interest from the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
“They’ve been sending me inspirational stuff and the game schedule,” the 6-foot, 167-pounder from Trotwood-Madison High School in Trotwood, Ohio. “They’re trying to get me down there for a game.”
Beckham wants to take the Irish up on that offer.
“Hopefully soon,” he said. “Probably sometime in October.”
Beckham is eager to get a closer look at the Irish’s program.
“I really like Notre Dame,” he said. “I like their style of play and their atmosphere.”
Multiple schools like Beckham’s style and have decided to extended early offers.
“I’m up to six right now, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Akron, Central Michigan and Western Michigan,” he said. “It’s a blessing. I’m off to a good start. If I just keep working hard, I know I’ll get more after the season.”
Beckham, who has been clocked at 4.43 in the 40-yard dash, believes coaches see a lot to like about him on film.
“My footwork, my work ethic, my great coverage and my tackling in the open field,” he said of what’s attracted the attention of college scouts.
Beckham visited Ohio in the spring before stops at Indiana and Illinois. He was at Michigan State for the Spartans’ victory over South Florida earlier this month.
“It was fun,” Beckham said of his trip to East Lansing. “I had a great time up there. I had fun with the coaches, seeing the players get after it and seeing the student section get all rowdy.”
He's planning to make stops at Kentucky and Cincinnati this weekend and is hoping to make trips to Indiana, Ohio State, Penn State in addition to South Bend this fall.
Beckham has already identified a few factors that’ll be key in his decision.
“Probably how the coaching staff is, how my major is at that school and really the atmosphere.”
