DeChaun Holiday is still waiting on his first scholarship offer, but the 2015 California cornerback is already receiving interest from some of the nation’s top programs.
“The top schools I’ve been hearing from are Alabama, USC, Georgia, Auburn and almost all of the Pac-12 schools,” said the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder from Mission Hills High School in San Marcos, Calif.
“It’s great. It’s exciting.”
Holiday has also been in touch with the staff at Notre Dame.
“They’ve been telling me about their upcoming games and stuff like that,” said Holiday.
At this point, Holiday admittedly doesn’t know too much about the Irish.
“I haven’t really researched them yet, but I’m planning on doing that soon,” he said.
And he may get the chance to learn more about the program in person.
“They invited me to all of their home games,” he said. “I think I might be able to do that. Me and my dad are talking about it right now.”
He’s interested enough in Notre Dame to check it out based on reputation alone.
“Just from other people telling me things about them, I know it’s a really good school,” he said.
He sees himself as the kind of player who could help a school’s secondary.
“I’m definitely more of a coverage corner I’d say,” he said. “If it’s necessary, I’ll come down and make a tackle, but I’m more of a coverage corner.”
And he knows what he’ll be looking at when he starts evaluating schools.
“The education, if I could myself there for four years, the environment, what the school’s like and early playing time.”
