Jozie Milton has seen his recruiting process pick up dramatically since Sept. 1st, when college programs could start sending the 2015 Louisiana defensive tackle direct mail.
“It’s pretty crazy,” the 6-foot-3, 290-pounder from Silliman Institute in Clinton, La.
“I’ve gotten tons of mail. I’ve gotten like 20 letters from Notre Dame. It feels pretty good.”
Milton said most of the mail from the Irish are posters and postcards, but added, “One of the posters has some little notes about the school.”
The junior defensive lineman knows a little bit about Notre Dame and what he does know has caught his attention.
“They did go to the BCS National Championship last year, so that’s pretty big right there,” he said of the Irish. “Obviously they have a great coaching and great academics and tradition.”
Milton said that he’d like to visit South Bend at some point to see the school, but will be able to see the Irish in person this week.
“I got invited to the Notre Dame-Arizona State game in Dallas,” Milton said. “I’ll be there.”
He’s already taken a few visits to schools like LSU, Southern Mississippi and Louisiana-Monroe and plans on making more trips this fall.
“We’re going to go to an LSU and we’re going a few Ole Miss games and then (Louisiana-Monroe),” he said.
Louisiana-Lafayette and Alabama have also been sending Milton mail since Sept. 1st.
Milton is still waiting for that first offer and is excited about the idea, “It’d be pretty insane.”
Milton believes his attitude and his technique have allowed him to attract so much attention at this point.
“They say I get off the ball pretty quick and I’m pretty intense and I stay low pretty well,” he said of college coaches.
He has an idea of what he’ll be looking for when he is choosing a school.
“Of course I want to get an education, but I want to get better while I’m at college,” he said. “Everybody has the dream of going to the NFL, so that’s a dream of mine also.”
But at this point, he doesn’t have any favorites.
“I’m pretty open right now.”
