Bryce Treggs (Bellflower, Calf./St. John Bosco) is looking forward to his trip to South Bend this weekend.
“I’m super excited,” the 5-foot-11, 175-pound wideout said. “I’ve never been there, so it’s going to be good to get to know the place a little bit.”
Treggs already knows Notre Dame is a school rich in history, but he wants to see it for himself.
“The tradition of Notre Dame is very big,” he said. “I just want to go to the spring game and see what that’s like. I know they run the spread, I want to see how they use some of their top guys. I want to meet Coach (Brian) Kelly because I’ve never met him.”
Treggs will be coming with his father and good friend and fellow California wideout Kodi Whitfield. The group will fly into Chicago on Friday and check out Northwestern before heading down to South Bend. They’ll stay at Notre Dame until flying back to California on Monday.
The Irish offered Treggs a scholarship back in December and he stays in contact with Notre Dame West Coast recruiter Mike Denbrock often.
“He’s a real cool guy,” Treggs said of Denbrock. “I can basically call him anytime I want to. We can talk about the school or anything I else I want to talk about…We have a good relationship.
“I think they want me pretty bad. I think they want me to come in and play as a true freshman, so I want to be able to fulfill that.”
But Notre Dame isn’t the only school that wants Treggs badly. He also holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, California, Colorado, Georgia Tech, San Jose State, Stanford, UCLA, Utah and Washington.
Treggs has already taken trips to Washington, Cal, Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA. He’ll make a return trip to Washington at the end of the month for the Huskies’ spring game. He said Notre Dame is one of his top schools at the moment along with Cal, Washington, UCLA and Arizona.
His father, Brian, played wide receiver for Cal.
“I’m very familiar with Cal,” Treggs said. “I know some of the guys that are committed there like the quarterback, Zach Kline. I know the coaching staff pretty well too because they all know my dad.”
But Treggs said his father will leave his college decision to him. He has a list of factors he’ll be looking at when he makes that decision.
“I’m going to look at academics, of course, early playing time, a place where I could compete for a BCS Championship every year and a social life would be good also,” he said.
Treggs is planning to cut his list to five in August before announcing the school of his choice on signing day.
